Diversity in Action: Let's STEAM ahead!

26 Nov 2024 By WildTrack

WildTrack technology was inspired by the traditional ecological knowledge of indigenous trackers in Africa. From that point, we realized the power of a diverse team in designing and implementing better ways of monitoring endangered wildlife. Diversity in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) is critical to success in the modern world, and particularly in wildlife conservation, because protecting biodiversity is critical for all communities on our planet, humans included.

Recently four women in the WildTrack team; Onyi Dillebe, Yolanda Davis, Kari Dorth and Zoe Jewell, were honoured to be interviewed by “Diversity in Action” magazine for a feature on WildTrack (pages 34-42). This magazine showcases the incredible strengths of teams from diverse origins; ethnic, cultural, experiential, and geographical. Different ways of thinking are key to innovation, to thinking outside the well-trodden path, to bringing new solutions.

We’re proud of our diverse and talented team at WildTrack, and their wonderful contributions to protecting the complex network of biodiversity that all life on earth depends on. One footprint at a time, we are making huge leaps.

“For me, one of the major reasons to move beyond just the planting of trees was that I have tendency to look at the causes of a problem. We often preoccupy ourselves with the symptoms, whereas if we went to the root cause of the problems, we would be able to overcome the problems once and for all”
